How to Do a Daily Tarot Reading for Clarity

Hey there!

If you’re like me, you probably start your mornings with a cup of coffee (or tea), and there’s something truly magical about using that quiet time to reflect on the day ahead. For me, this includes pulling at least one tarot card every morning. The practice of sitting with my energy and the cards (and coffee!) before kicking off a new day has become the cornerstone of my routine. It’s also something I’ve been recommending to clients for years, and has been instrumental in helping them to find center first thing in the morning and really tap into their intuition and natural gifts. Ultimately, the daily tarot pull is a practice that fosters deeper self-understanding and heightened awareness.

Now, whether you’re new to tarot or have been reading for a while, a daily tarot practice can help you tap into your inner wisdom and set your intentions for the day. So, let’s talk about how you can do this too and make tarot a powerful start to each new dawn!

1. Set Your Intention for the Day

Before you even shuffle the deck, take a deep breath and think about what you’d like to focus on. Maybe you want guidance on an upcoming decision or just want to feel more aligned with your purpose. When I pull my card each morning, I always set an intention—something simple, like, “What energy should I embrace today?” or “What do I need to know today to stay grounded?”

You don’t need a complicated question, just something that feels right in the moment. This makes your reading feel personal and meaningful.

2. Choose Your Spread

You don’t have to pull a ton of cards every day—in fact, I’d caution against it in most cases. Simplicity is key for this practice! There’s plentiful insight to be gained from just a single card, but if you feel called to, you may want to utilize a three-card spread.

Here’s my go-to three-card spread:

  • Card 1: The past/current energy – This tells me where I’m coming from, what’s influencing me today.
  • Card 2: The present moment – This card reflects the energy right now, what I should focus on.
  • Card 3: Advice for the day – This one’s a nudge from the universe, guiding me toward what action to take or how to stay aligned.

If I’m short on time, I’ll just pull one card to get a snapshot of what I need to know. And trust me, that one card can give you an abundance of clarity.

3. Trust Your Intuition

Here’s the secret: tarot is about feeling more than it is about memorizing card meanings. When you pull a card, don’t worry about knowing every single definition. What’s important is how the card makes you feel. Do you get a sense of calm, excitement, or maybe a little unease? Listen to those feelings—they’re part of the message!

As you look at the card, ask yourself: What stands out to me? What emotions or thoughts come up? The more you trust your gut, the clearer the messages will become.

4. Reflect on the Message

After pulling your card (or cards), take a few minutes to sit with the message. I like to reflect with my morning coffee, and sometimes I jot down my thoughts in a journal. This part is really important because it helps you absorb the guidance and integrate it into your day.

You might think about:

  • What does this card tell me about where I’m at right now?
  • How does it connect to my intention for the day?
  • Are there any symbols or numbers that stand out to me?

If you feel like the message is unclear, don’t worry! Sometimes, it takes a little while for the message to unfold. That’s why I like to revisit my morning card later in the day to see how it’s played out.

If you do feel really stuck, you may want to snap a quick picture of the card and talk through the reading with a professional tarot reader or spiritual coach. They may be able to guide you past confusion or blockages.

5. Reflect at the End of the Day

If you want to deepen your connection with your daily tarot practice, take a few minutes at the end of the day to reflect on your reading. Revisit the card you pulled in the morning and ask yourself: How did the themes in the reading show up today?

Maybe the card gave you a nudge to stay calm, and you found yourself managing stress better than usual. Or maybe the card warned of some challenges, and now you see exactly how that played out. Reflecting at the end of the day can give you a deeper understanding of how the tarot guides you.

6. Stay Consistent

The beauty of a daily tarot practice is that the more you do it, the more connected you become to the cards. Over time, you’ll notice that your readings get clearer and more aligned with your life. It’s not about perfection—it’s about building that relationship with your intuition, day by day.

Try pulling your card every morning, even if it’s just one card, and see how it feels. And don’t forget to check in later to see how the messages unfold throughout your day.

Final Thoughts

I can’t tell you how much my morning tarot pulls have helped me gain clarity and set my intentions for the day. It’s like having a little guiding light in the palm of my hand. Whether you’re looking for guidance or just want to start your day off right, tarot is a wonderful tool to tap into your intuition and stay grounded.

Give it a try tomorrow morning—grab your deck, pour your coffee, and see what the cards have in store for you. You might be surprised at how much they help you stay connected to your true self throughout the day!
