You’re Allowed to Spread Your Wings

You don’t have to stay small to keep them steady.

You don’t have to dim your light so their eyes don’t hurt. You don’t have to fold yourself into familiar shapes just because they recognize you that way.

There is no virtue in staying still when your soul is screaming to move. No honor in keeping yourself contained because your expansion makes others nervous.

You, who has been so careful — you are allowed to be wild now. Allowed to want more. Allowed to outgrow the version of yourself they fell in love with.

You’ve stayed in rooms that felt too tight because leaving felt like betrayal. You’ve smiled through conversations that no longer fed you because your honesty might sting. You’ve kept your dreams quiet so no one would feel left behind.

But you are not a supporting character in someone else’s story.

This is not your moment to apologize for changing. This is your moment to unfurl, even if it’s messy, even if it’s sudden, even if no one understands.

Can you let yourself want something different? Can you let your curiosity lead you somewhere new, even if the people you love can’t follow yet?

This isn’t cruelty. This is growth. This is the way all living things are designed to move.

You were never meant to be a monument. You are allowed to shift. To explore. To follow the thread of wonder that’s been tugging at your chest for months now.

Even the tree sheds its leaves to survive the winter. Even the snake leaves behind its skin. Even the caterpillar must disappear completely to become what it was always meant to be.

You’re allowed to change your mind. You’re allowed to say, “This doesn’t fit anymore.” You’re allowed to be curious and restless and hungry for something you can’t yet name.

Your evolution is not a betrayal of who you were.

And in this moment (this oh-so tender, terrifying, electric moment) you are allowed to choose yourself.

Even if it disappoints them. Even if they don’t get it. Even if you have to walk alone for a while.

You are still loved. Still worthy.

Let them adjust to your new shape in their own time. Let them feel their feelings about your flight.

And let yourself spread your wings — not away from love — but toward becoming.

Not the Easy One. Not the Constant One. Just you. Just alive. Just free.

And that is more than enough.
